Randy, the youngest of the 6 Jackson brothers, was the 6th unofficial member of the J5. He was too young to join the band when the Jackson 5 signed their first record deal, but soon he started to play congas during the J5's live shows and later on he was a part of the Jacksons Las Vegas revue show.
As the Jackson brothers left Motown to sign to Epic Records in 1976, he became an official member of The Jacksons to replace Jermaine.
His songwriting credits for the Jacksons include, among others, 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)', 'All Night Dancin' & Lovely One'.
In 1978 Randy started to record a couple songs for his first solo album. The first single from this album was 'How Could I Be Sure' the b-side of this single contained the song 'Love Song For Kids' - a duet with Janet Jackson that was probably Janets first recording ever. Unfortunately the whole album has never been released, because Randy was involved in a bad car accident in which he temporarily lost the use of his legs.
Randy wrote and produced sister LaToya's song 'Giving You Up' as well as 'My Special Love' that he co-wrote. He also sang background vocals, together with Tito, on Jermaine Jackson's 'Escape From The Planet Of Ant Men' in 1984.
In 1989 'Randy & The Gypsys', R.J's only solo album, had been released on A&M Records, that includes the popular soul song 'Love You Honey'.
In 1989 Randy recorded '2300 Jackson Street' together with his brothers Jermaine, Jackie & Tito. He'll also be a part of the J5 reunion album
