Janet Jackson Biography

Janet Jackson started performing from the early age of 7. At that time her brothers, The Jackson 5 (J5), had a show in Las Vegas, and one day her father Joseph, who managed the J5, asked her to sing in the boys act. Together with Randy, the youngest Jackson brother, Janet performed a couple of songs and got standing ovations. So she got a taste of showbiz and started to enjoy it. Janet continued to do some work on stage together with her brothers and was noticed by a TV producer that signed her as a regular on the series Good Times. After Good Times Janet went on to roles on the series A New Kind Of Family, Diff'rent Strokes and Fame. She also had a guest role on Love Boat. In 1982 Janet released her first album on A&M Records simply called „Janet Jackson". This first album of hers and the follow up release in 1984 Dream Street wasn't very successfull. In 1986, after her brief marriage to singer James DeBarge, Janet joined forces with producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to put together her extremely successfull album „Control". The album "Control" whose main subject was getting independent and living a life on your own started Janet's rise to the top of the entertainment world. Janet's fourth album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814" was ranked #1 for four weeks after it's release and includes many Top 10 and #1 hits from all over the world. Just like "Control", Rhythm Nation had a subject too - racism, social life and education. With this album Janet kicked off her first world tour ever. The sold out Rhythm Nation tour was the most successfull solo debut tour ever. It was the first time Janet showed the world what a talented performer she is. Janet's live shows are still setting standards, everytime you think "She can't top that show.", Janet proves you wrong with her next album and tour. In 1992 Janet left A&M Records and signed up with Virgin Records. In 1993 she made her first movie "Poetic Justice", that was directed by John Sigleton and co-starring the late, great Tupac Shakur. Janet also released her fifth album "janet." in 1993. The "janet." album was her most feminine album and people called it her 'love album', because that's what it is all about - love and relationships. "janet." is Janet's most successful album so far and her sold out Janet. - world tour was even better and more colorful as the first one.

In 1997 Janet finally released her highly anticipated, "The Velvet Rope" which critics praised. Janet processed her past and her depressions with "The Velvet Rope". Showing the world that you can be rich, successful and have everything, but that doesn't mean you're happy. With her Velvet Rope - Tour, that kicked off early 1998 in Europe Miss Janet proved once again that she's one of the world's best performers, and still able to surprise and fascinate the crowd.
